About training in Wing Chun Kung Fu by Olivia (age 11)
Imagine you are walking around the streets, having a great time with your friends, when a stranger comes up to you and wants to fight you what would you do?
My name is Olivia and I believe martial arts and in particular Wing Chun Kung Fu, could help you out of this scary situation.
Wing Chun Kung Fu teaches you self defence; courtesy; respect; self confidence and most importantly non violent behaviour.
I believe you should do martial arts because of the ability to learn self defence to protect yourself. It also teaches you self discipline, an important trait we all need.
Wing Chun Kung Fu helps make you fitter, stronger and more flexible because of the regular stretches and training that is required.
Martial Arts is not just about fighting, it is also about helping you deal with your fears, anger and finding inner peace.
When you learn and practice Wing Chun Kung Fu you get a sense of power. You know that your chances of defending yourself are greatly improved. You naturally lose fear. Not all of it of course. But you know that you are on an even playing field with those tough guys. So as you lose fear you have better understanding that knowing you can fight and win, you find that you don’t want to. You become more peaceful and far less likely to get into fights and you become far less aggressive.
Wing Chun Kung Fu, like all martial arts, has gradings to progress through. Many people just come for the fitness and not for the grading, this is fine too. It also is a social environment where you can build friendships.
Wing Chun Kung Fu classes are always very supportive, so there’s no teasing, no one puts anyone else down, and everyone’s accomplishments are applauded.
So what are you waiting for, come and join martial arts, if you want to have self defence, become fitter, have more confidence and find that you are ready to take on the big world out there.
